General Information (Solo and Teams)
Optional Meeting
Solo runners and teams can attend a Question & Answer session at the packet pickup at Paulucci Hall at 7 pm on Friday. See
Schedule of Events
for locations and times. This is the only chance to discuss questions you may have prior to the event.
The Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center (DECC)
Registration, pre-race meetings, Expo and awards ceremony will be held at the Duluth
Entertainment and Convention Center (DECC). The DECC is located at 350 Harbor
Drive next to the William Irving orr carrier ship on the waterfront in
Duluth, Minnesota. The DECC is just off Highway I-35. Take exit 256B. You will
be required to pay a parking fee in order to use the DECC parking lot. All
event activities will be in Paulucci Hall on the lower level.
Course Safety
Runners
This is not a closed course. All runners, unless otherwise
directed by a Law Enforcement Officer, must run on the side of the road
facing traffic. Under no circumstance are you allowed to cross the road in
order to cut a tangent. You will be disqualified.
Vehicles
You must always travel at the posted speed limits. Do not block anyone’s private property. Many
residents may be using the roads in the morning to go to work. Please pull
over and let them move down the course. Residents will not have a number on
their front window.
Solo/two-person handlers and team
vehicles must drive past their runner and pull over to communicate. Handlers and teams are prohibited from driving
alongside their runner. Violation of this rule may result in a stand down. See Course Violations.
Please note! This is a one way racecourse to 65K. Do not,
under any circumstance, even try to be on the course with an
unmarked vehicle or attempt to drive “up” the course, including the access
road off Highway 2, which looks very inviting. You will be disqualified if you
fail to follow these rules. THESE ARE THE MOST SERIOUS VIOLATIONS OF THE
EVENT AND WILL BE DEALT WITH ACCORDINGLY.
65K Point
At the 65K point in the event, runners
will be directed by a Law Enforcement Officer or Race Official to cross from
the correct side of the road facing traffic to the other side of the road
with traffic. Please follow the directions of the officer. This will set
you up for the turn on 26th Avenue in order to go around Two Harbors. After the cross over on Highway 2, runners and
vehicles will take separate routes to get onto Highway 61. Vehicles will
proceed onto Highway 61. There will not be any law enforcement onto Highway
61 so all vehicles must abide traffic lights and other rules of the road. Runners will turn right from 26th Avenue to West 11th
Avenue Parkway You will then turn left on Lake County 190 and proceed to the
Police controlled crossing on Highway 61 which
will be just north of a SuperAmerica. See Course Map for details of this portion of the course.
Finish Line
Vehicles will not be allowed direct access to the finish
line. You must enter from the south entrance of Gitchi Gummi Park or park on
the shoulder of Scenic 61 and walk down to the finish line. When you are
walking down to or leaving the finish area, please stay to the side of the
road so our finish line announcers can see the runners and give them the
wonderful welcome this race is known for.
Course Violations
Runners and/or teams not
following course rules will hear an air horn from a race official which may
result in a stand down where the team vehicle number will be marked and the
runner will be required to stop for five (5) minutes before being allowed to
continue down the course. Teams will be disqualified on the third
violation.
Race Numbers
Race numbers must be worn on the
front and visible at all times. Make sure the race number with the tear-off tag
is worn by the runner running the last leg to the finish line.
