100K Solo & 50K Solo Information

Transportation to the Start

100K Solo

The race will provide transportation to the 5:00 am and 7:00 am start in Finland from the finish line. If you are in the 5:00 am start, the van will leave at 3:00 am. If you are in the 7:00 am start, it will leave at 5:00 am. You MUST tell us if you are requiring a ride to the start.  Space is limited. If you have a handler, please have them transport you to the start. You should plan to allow at least one and one half-hours to drive from Duluth to Beaver Bay, then the start is another 16+ miles, so please allow additional time. Please be very careful and watch out for deer. There are construction projects from time to time so allow for this in your travel plans. (See Course Maps)

50K Solo

The race will provide transportation to the 10:00 am start at the 50K point from the finish line50K Solo runners are required to take provided transportation to the start.  The van will depart from the finish line at Gitchi Gummi Park at 9:00 am.

100K Solo Course

Important Notice – Do not run into Beaver Bay!

Solo runners and two-person teams do not go into Beaver Bay.  Please make sure you watch the course marking and review the maps to make sure you don’t make this “hilly” mistake.

Start Times

100K Solo

If you do not think you can finish in less than 10 hours, please choose the 5:00 am start time.  If you are faster than 10 hours, you may start at 7:00 am.  Fast solo runners should not start at 5:00 am.  We will not guarantee some of the aid stations will be open if you out-run the projected pace.  When selecting your start time, please note that only 7:00 am starters who complete the course before it closes are eligible for prize money.

50K Solo

All 50K solo runners will start at 10:00 am.

Handlers—100K Solo Runners Only

100K Solo runners may have their own handler. If you need more services than is offered, it is strongly suggested to have your own handler.  The handler is allowed to be on the upper 20K of the course and may access the start line by following Highway 61 north past Beaver Bay to Iligen City.  Take 9 towards Finland to the start line.  As handlers, make sure your runner makes the turn at highway 4 & 3 and does not go into Beaver Bay. You must have your vehicle marked with your runners number at the start using the additional race number provided to you at the start for this purpose. You may only provide aid to your runner at the official aid stations, which are every 5K. Only under an emergency can you provide aid at any other point. You risk being disqualified if this aid is reported.

Drop Bags—100K Solo Runners Only

You must provide your own drop bags. They must be clearly marked with your name, race number and location for the bag. We will only drop them at the 50K point and the finish line.  The race will not guarantee that any bag dropped on the course will get to the finish line before you arrive. If you designate a finish line bag, it will be dropped before you arrive. If you do not pick up your bags at the finish line, we will bring them to the awards program. After the awards program all clothing and material will be donated to charity.

Massages

Massages will be available to all solo runners at the finish. A finish line volunteer will direct you to the proper tent at the finish line.
