Early Start Option
If you feel
you cannot finish your event within 11 hours, you may start earlier than your
designated start time, however, your team will not be eligible for an award.
Transportation to the Start
All teams must transport their first runner to Beaver Bay.
Your first runner will be transported by bus to the start near Finland.
Absolutely no teams are allowed to drive to the start or to be on the upper
20K.
Travel Time from Duluth to
Beaver Bay
You should plan to allow at least one and one-half hours to drive from Duluth to Beaver Bay. Be
very careful and watch out for deer. There are construction projects from
time to time so allow for this in your travel plans. (See Course Map.)
Team Vehicles
Each team is allowed one (1)
vehicle on the race course. Team vehicles access the course at Beaver Bay
and not before. No motor homes or large campers are allowed on the upper 65K
due to narrow roads without shoulders.
Vehicle Marking
Teams must display their race
number on their team vehicle. Vehicles are marked with their race number at
the vehicle marking area in Beaver Bay (see Course Map). Only one vehicle per team is allowed on the course. The provided team numbers must be on the lower right
corner (driver’s side) of their windshield and the lower left corner of their rear window.

Vehicle Release
Team vehicles will not be allowed on the race course until
30 minutes after the first runner relays at the 19.3K Beaver Bay relay
point. When the first runner arrives at the relay point, they will receive a
Vehicle Release Card which will specify the time your team vehicle will be
allowed on the course. Refer to the time
clock at the relay point to determine when your team vehicle can drive onto
the course. A race official will check the time on your card to verify your
vehicle is entering the course at your designated time. You must have a Vehicle Release Card marked with your
designated release time and your vehicle must be marked with your race number
(see Vehicle
Marking) before you will be allowed to enter
the course.
Relay Points and Batons
There is one mandatory relay
at the 19.3K point. Between these points, all teams may relay at any time.
A baton will be given to the first runner upon entering the bus at Beaver Bay. Team runners must have a baton to start. The baton must be carried by each runner throughout the
race. Team runners not carrying a baton will be disqualified.
When exchanging the baton, the
next runner must cross to the left side of the road to do the exchange.
Exchanging the baton at the team vehicle on the right side of the road is
prohibited. Violation of this rule may result in a stand down (see Course Violations.)
No Relay Zones
Relaying is not permitted:
1. At any aid station
2. Within
1/4 mile before and after aid stations
3. Within 1st 19.3K of course
4. Between 65K point and Two Harbors
5. Anywhere on Hwy 2 (Approx. 6 miles)
Violation of this rule may
result in a stand down (see Course Violations.)
First Runner Drop Bags
If you are the first runner, you may leave a well-marked
bag on the bus at the start. The bus will return to Beaver Bay and Race
officials will remove all bags and put them on the porch of the Beaver Bay
Inn. You must make sure you or someone on your team retrieves your bag. We
will not transport the bags to the finish. Bags remaining at Beaver Bay will
be donated to charity.
Injured/Tired Runner Rule
If a runner is unable to
complete the first leg, we cannot guarantee when your runner will be
returned to Beaver Bay.
Awards
There will be awards for the top
three teams in each team category.
