Competition Team Event
If you select a competition
category,
you will start with other competition teams in your category at
the appointed times. Please be sure this allows
you enough time to get down the course and clear the finish line before 5:30 pm.
If you will not be able to make this time, please designate
yourself as a Fun Team. You
will not be eligible for awards if you are a competitive team and start at the
early fun team start times. The youngest person on your team determines the age
of you entire team.
There will be awards for the top
three teams in each Competition Team category. Competition teams must start at
assigned times (see Start Times) and can only relay at
designated relay stations.
Fun Team Event
If you are a Fun Team, you may
start at any of the designated team start times (see Start Times).
Your start time will be noted at the starting line. If you linger on the course,
the event reserves the right to pick you up and transport you to the next relay
point to assure everyone will arrive at the finish line on or around 5:30 pm. If
a race official approaches you
to transport you,
you are not allowed to refuse.
Fun teams will not be scored
except total finish time. New this year - there will be awards for the top three
Fun Teams. Fun teams can start at any official time on a first come basis. Fun
teams are encouraged to start early in order to finish on time. Fun teams must
relay at all official relay stations. They are allowed to split up the longer
legs with as many runners as desired,
except for the first leg.
Transportation to the Start
All teams must transport their
first runner to Beaver Bay. Your first runner will be transported by bus to the
start near Finland. Absolutely no teams are allowed to drive to the start or to
be on the upper 20K.

Team Vehicles
Beaver Bay Vehicle Marking (see map)
Team
vehicles may not access the course before Beaver Bay.
Only one vehicle/team is allowed to be
on the upper 65K course.
After 65K, you may add an additional vehicle.
No motor
home or large campers are allowed on the upper 65K.
The roads are very narrow and without shoulders. When you arrive in Beaver Bay,
you must proceed to the vehicle marking area. (See map) Your vehicle will be
marked with your team number. These markings will be on the windshield of the
passengers’ side, on the rear window of the drivers’ side, and on the back
window. Do not attempt to be on the course without a marked car.
Beaver Bay Vehicle Release (see map & diagrams)
When your first runner finishes,
they will be given a vehicle release card. The time indicated on the card is
when your “marked” vehicle will be released to the course. Race officials will
be posted at the Highway 61 & 4 intersection along with a Law Enforcement
Officer from Lake County. A race clock will be posted at the intersection. When
the time on your card is the same as the race clock, you will be released to the
course, not before. Do not attempt to “jump” the start. You will be sent back to
the back of the line. You may begin lining up on the shoulder of the road on
Highway 61. Be careful and courteous at all times. You will have more than
enough time to meet your runner
One Way Race Course (see map)
This is a one way racecourse to
65K. Do not under any circumstance attempt to drive “up” the course, including
the access road off Highway 2, which looks very inviting. You will be
disqualified if you fail to follow these rules
65K Relay Point
All support vehicles must park in
the Lake County Highway Department parking lot. You must not park anywhere on
Highway 2. When your support vehicle arrives at the Lake County facility race
officials will direct you. The runners will not go into the parking lot. The
runners finishing this leg will continue with the solo runners to the 26th
Avenue and turn right to the relay point. The next relay runner can access the
relay point via the small access road from the parking lot. Once you complete
your relay your car may exit the road next to the dog pound and drive on 26th. DO NOT DRIVE ALONG
SIDE YOUR RUNNERS ON 26th Avenue. THE TWO HARBORS
POLICE WILL BE PATROLLING THIS SECTION. YOU WILL BE IMMEDIATELY REMOVED FROM THE
EVENT. Law Enforcement officers from the Two Harbors Police Department and the
Minnesota State Highway Patrol will be posted at the intersection of 26th and 61 in order to
assist the runners and team cars to cross the intersection. Runners will be on
the sidewalk until you join the road and turn on the Scenic Highway. (See the
maps and diagrams.)
105K Team Relay Runner Information
Relay Order
Competitive Team
The relay order is 19.3K, 25.9K,
25K, 9.9K, 5K, 5.1K, 5K & 10K.
Fun Teams
Fun teams are allowed to split up
the legs with as many runners as desired,
except for the first leg
since vehicles are strictly prohibited on the upper
20K.
Reflective Vests
Each Team will be given a
reflective vest and 2 race numbers. Using
the zip ties that are included in your race packet, attach the number with the
tear off to the front of the vest provided and the other number to the back.
The vest must be removed by the runner
finishing each relay leg and passed to the next runner. We will collect all the
vests at the finish line.
First Runner Drop Bags
If you are the first runner, you
may leave a well-marked bag on the bus at the start. The bus will return to
Beaver Bay and Race officials will remove all bags and put them on the porch of
the Beaver Bay Inn. You must make sure you or someone on your team retrieves
your bag. We will not transport the bags to the finish. Bags remaining at Beaver
Bay will be donated to charity.
Relay Points (see diagram)

Relay points will be very busy. Please
stay out of the road and do not block the relay area. Do not drive into the
relay zone and stop, you will cause a chain reaction traffic jam. It is
recommended that you drive well passed the relay zone to park and then walk back
to the relay area. Under no circumstances are you allowed to park, run, walk or
stand in front of a relay zone. The volunteers must have a clear line to see the
oncoming runners. NO other runner or team member is allow in the relay area
except the finishing and starting runner. Finally, please help us to keep the
road clear; Do not walk down the road two or more abreast with your backs to
traffic. Stay over to the side and have a fun day.
5K Relay Point
These relay point are high energy
and very busy. Please stay aware of the traffic on the Scenic Highway and please
look before you cross the road. Remember that this is not a closed course. There
can be a great deal of traffic on the Scenic Highway especially when it is nice.
Injured Runner Rule
If a relay runner on a
competitive team is injured while running, the relay runner who just finished
the previous leg must put on the vest and finish the relay to the next exchange
point. Please do not put an injured runner on the first leg. If a runner is
injured on the first leg, we can not guarantee when your runner will be returned
to Beaver Bay. This is also referred to as the “Tired Runner Rule”.
